ge_shaizn for her fic request in the $1-FOR-A-DRABBLE - BUY A DRABBLE activity of as part of their fundraising activity to help the victims of typhoon that recently hit Mindanao.
“You and I should stop meeting like this,” Ryo chuckled out of the blue the moment he stepped into the very first set for Inu o Kau to Iu Koto and saw her there already. For some reason, some sort of warmth filled his heart the moment he saw her there, a reaction he had attributed to the fact that she was a familiar face in that sea of strangers.
But he and Asami weren’t friends. No, not really, not even it being their third time working with each other. And as far as he knows, he hadn’t really had any sort of interaction with the woman outside of the set.
“N-nishikido-san,” Asami stuttered, taken aback by his sudden appearance before she smiled shyly. “Yeah, we always do seem to end up meeting during dramas.”
“Yeah, that’s right,” Ryo breathed as he looked around. The site was bursting with activity, from people arranging the props to the camera men checking the cameras and the lights. “It’s good seeing you again.”
Asami smiled. “Please render me your favor,” she ended up with a small bow.
“Please render me your favor too,” Ryo replied as he too bowed. Just then, their director had noticed his arrival and had beckoned the two of them towards him. Asami quickly bustled towards the older guy with the air of someone extremely relieved of a distraction.
He wouldn’t have thought any of it if he did not notice that she seemed to be blushing lightly as she tried her best not to look at him.

Asami had to breathe in deeply for a couple of times in the powder room before she could truly say that she is completely calmed down. The director had given them a couple of minutes to freshen up and prepare before they start the first take. And she took that time to dash to the powder room to try and calm herself down.
She didn’t really notice when he stepped into the room. She didn’t see him coming. But then he suddenly addressed her and that alone would have surprised her already. And it did. But then there’s the case of what the guy said.
She could feel her heart beating furiously, as though she had ran a few hundred meters. And she sincerely hoped that no one noticed that she felt squeamish, especially not him.
“Maybe you two are destined to cross each other’s paths,” she could practically hear Juri’s voice in her head.
That was what Ueno Juri said the moment she told the younger woman about her next drama role. It was just accidental really; she didn’t really mean to talk to the woman about her next project. Years and years of working with each other on numerous projects had made them friends but still, they do try their best not to talk about work when they always see each other at work already.
But Juri had heard about her being a wife and mother for her next project and so she asked who the husband was going to be. She shrugged and told her the familiar name: Nishikido Ryo, and that’s when the woman said it.
“Ryo and me?” Asami asked her reflection aloud. “Impossible!” she exclaimed.
Except that the erratic beating of her own heart, and her reaction to what he said earlier seems to be saying “Why not?”

“That was a total pick-up line!” Uchi chuckled merrily the moment Ryo had told his best friend about what happened.
If truth be told, despite the fact that he now rarely sees the guy, what with both of them having their own careers to deal with, but it always ends up that Uchi gets to be the first one to know things about him before anyone else from his two active groups. There’s nothing weird about it really. After all, Uchi is his best friend.
A best friend he’s considering to hit right now (even if he never would).
“What?” he growled.
“That line you fed her!” Uchi guffawed. “The ‘We really should stop meeting like this’ line! That’s a total pick up line! Oh my God! You like Mizukawa Asami-chan!”
“Wait, what?! No!” Ryo almost choked in his own saliva as Uchi looked at him in a combination of an accusing glare and an amused look.
“Yes you do!” Uchi exclaimed. “And there’s no point denying it! I know it in my guts! You like her!”
Ryo, although feeling the heat rise up to his face, snorted. “Well, you might need to get your guts checked because the last time, you said I liked Toda Erika-chan too,” he tried to downplay.
“I said you have a crush on Hina’s girlfriend, not like. Just a crush,” Uchi shrugged.
“Whatever,” Ryo snorted confidently. “It’s the same thing.”
But instead of wiping off the smug look on Uchi’s face, it only made the guy grin even more.
“See! You just admitted that you like Mizukawa Asami-chan too!” he exclaimed.
“What?” Ryo doubled back, blinking furiously as he recalled what just happened. And then he growled.
“You were the one who said it!” Uchi exclaimed triumphantly (and gloatingly) making Ryo groan all the more.
Burying his face in his falms, Ryo could only shake his head and sigh. The thing with him and Uchi is that he never really wins against the guy especially during discussions of emotions and the like. Never had and he specially will never win this. And what’s worse, for him that is, is that Uchi will never let go of it.
And he was right.
“Why don’t you ask her out?” Uchi asked out of the blue.
“What?”
“You like her, there’s no point in denying that,” Uchi shrugged a matter-of-factly. “Why don’t you do something about it?”
“We’ve worked together twice in the past,” he tried to reason out.
“Perfect!” Uchi smiled. “Third times’ the charm!”

It was only after their 8th episode did Ryo finally pluck up enough guts to ask her out for dinner, and he didn’t even really ask her out. It’s more like he stuttered and hummed until they ended up going out. And Uchi would have to give him credit that he didn’t mess it up, not completely at least.
“I enjoyed tonight,” Asami said, turning around to face Ryo as they pulled over in front of her apartment building.
“It’s good to hear that, so did I,” he smiled. “Maybe we could do this again,” he added as he tried to act nonchalant. He ended up chuckling though when he saw the surprised look in Asami’s face mixing in with the faint blush she always seem to have on every time Ryo’s eyes would turn to her. “Why do you look so surprised?”
“Well, uh…” she started uneasily before she too chuckled. “For the past two times you and I have worked with each other, we rarely really talked with each other. Now here we are and you’re asking me out for the second time. I would never have expected that.”
Ryo grinned triumphantly, feeling all too proud of himself.
“I am a constant surprise,” he told her before he remembered what Uchi had said. “Besides, they say third time’s the charm.”
Asami looked at him through narrowed eyes before she smiled. Leaning towards him, she kissed him on the cheeks before she whispered “I’d love to take you in on that offer.”
And it took Ryo all the efforts in the world to not pump his fist in the air, until Asami entered her apartment at least.
But even before she did, there’s no stopping that huge smile stretching to his lips.
