SMAP. Tokio. V6. KinKi Kids. ARASHI. Tackey & Tsubasa. NEWS. Kanjani8. KaT-TUN. Hey!Say!JUMP. KisMyFt2.
All these names, all these groups, all these guys, they have quite a lot of things in common. Gender. Profession. Company. But while they do have a lot in common, they also have a whole hoard of differences. These differences make up the groups’ unique personalities, concepts, and styles. These differences give each group the opportunity to have their own specific trademarks.
SMAP will most probably always be known as JE’s top group, no matter the success its kouhais would ever achieve. That and, of course, for having Kimura Takuya among its members. Kanjani8 will always be known for the wackiness and Kansai-ness of its members, V6 of its musical approach to things, headed of course by Masa, Sakamoto Masayuki.
But it is an entirely different group, one that’s also composed of five members, that is known for its members worrying about their leader. It is that particular group that often worries about what the future entails for the eldest of their members. That group would be Tokio. Tokio, not Arashi. Arashi is known more for the friendship between its members. Or it should be.
But for some reason, very reasonable reasons at that, the rest of Arashi found themselves mimicking Tokio with regards to the man they call “captain”.
-----
“The play is going on rather well, isn’t it?” Nino was saying as Jun pushed open the door towards their greenroom for the day.
The two youngest members of the group had arrived almost at the same time at the parking lot of the building with enough time to spare before the shoot of one of their regular shows, Arashi ni Shiyagare and had come up with the decision to head up together. The play Nino was referring to, of course, is Jun’s current stage play.
“Yeah,” Jun nodded. “Everyone’s been working really hard. I—“
But whatever Jun was planning to say, it was cut short by the scene that met them when they fully entered the room.
There were only two people inside the room at the moment, which isn’t really an unusual thing since Ohno is probably still on his way back, what with all the Kaibutsukun promotions he’s been doing. But it was what he heard Aiba saying that halted Jun (and even Nino).
“I can’t believe you’re not getting worked up over this!” Aiba exclaimed.
Jun and Nino caught each other’s eyes as they eased into the room. For quite some time in the past, they’ve had a habit of ignoring Aiba’s ideas especially when it has something to do with what the bubbly guy wants to do for their next show or project. Well, not entirely ignore at least since every idea does count. It’s just that Aiba’s ideas are, more often than not, rather far-fetched or impossible to do.
But during those times, Aiba would be saying his ideas in a bubbly manner even after they reject it. This time though, it’s another issue. Aiba is looking very serious. And when Aiba is serious, it becomes a whole lot harder to turn him down. Especially for Sho.
And the two youngest members of the group both knew that their resident newscaster is finding as hard a time as any to do just that when the guy threw them a pleased and pleading look the moment they entered his field of vision.
“Worked up over what?” Nino asked making everyone in the room turn to him with varying reactions: Aiba’s in relief, Sho’s in exasperation, and Jun’s in question.
In Jun’s mind, there are two possible reasons why Nino asked that question despite the clear plea in Sho’s eyes and the rather instinctive initial reaction of putting down Aiba’s ideas. One: Nino wanted to know what Aiba was saying before rejecting it. Or two: Nino simply enjoyed seeing their Keio boy squirm the way Sho is squirming at the moment. It might be that both reasons are in play but Jun has this feeling that it’d be more of the latter than the former. After all, it’s been a while since they’ve seen Sho look like that.
The moment Aiba replied though, whatever Nino might have planned to do just to annoy Sho flew out the window. Even Jun’s attention was caught, making Sho bury his face in his hands.
“Ohchan!” Aiba had exclaimed in reply.
“What about Ohchan?” Nino asked, simply depositing his bag on the chair, his attention completely caught.
“He’s turning 31,” Aiba exclaimed.
“Which you and I both will be by next year,” Sho quickly said, a quip that was promptly ignored by the three younger men.
“We know that, what about it?” Nino replied in his usual sarcastic drawl and as though Sho had not even uttered a word. But it is plainly obvious how his eyes looked so concerned the moment Aiba said the name of their eldest.
“Well,” Aiba hesitated, giving one last look at his usual ally, Sho, but seeing the guy wearing a look of pure determination, one Jun and Nino usually has when he voices out an idea either of the two would usually call ‘insane’. “He’s turning 30 and he still has no girlfriend.”
Jun and Nino caught each other’s eye as Sho gave out another exasperated sigh.
“So?” Nino managed to voice out first as the two new arrivals deposited their things to their respective places. The very short reply had caused Sho to breathe in relief and Aiba to roll his eyes.
“So we should start getting worried!” Aiba continued, not at all disturbed by the support, or lack there off, he’s getting from the others. “He’s not getting any younger.”
“Well, Ohchan is happy, or will soon be. When all these promotions for Kaibutsukun ends, I think our manager promised him a couple of days off for him to go fishing,” Jun decided to point out with a shrug despite him getting the older man’s drift. He had, after all, worried, albeit very slightly, of what would soon happen to their fish-loving eldest.
“Very happy,” Sho even punctuated.
“With fishing,” Aiba reasoned.
“You’re forgetting,” Nino chuckled. “This is Ohchan we’re talking about. The guy is happiest when he’s painting or fishing. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“If he doesn’t find himself a girl soon, there soon will be,” Aiba insisted. “He’s not getting any younger,” Aiba repeated.
“What?” Nino exclaimed.
“Where’s all this coming from anyway?” Jun asked.
There was another sigh but coming from Aiba this time. The guy looked at all three men in the room before he said to no one in particular “Gussan. He told me that if we don’t start thinking of Ohchan’s future for him, he could end up like Joushima-kun.”
“Now, now…” Sho started to mollify the scenario Aiba had painted, especially when both Jun and Nino started looking like they were going to side with Aiba. “You wouldn’t have to worry about Ohchan in that regard.”
Sho’s intention, though, seemed to have backfired when Jun, who he had thought would be siding with him, suddenly asks “Why do you sound so sure?”
Sho found himself silenced by the question as Jun was joined by Aiba and Nino in looking at him rather curiously and seriously.
“What do you know?” Nino voiced out rather alarmingly.
But before Sho could be forced to do anything other than stutter, the door opened again and in came the topic of their conversation (or confrontation, as the case may be) looking rather tired but pleased. Acting as though nothing of importance was being discussed before his arrival, all four younger members greeted Ohno and started quite a lively chat as they waited for them to be called to prepare.
It felt like a normal situation, except for the fact that Sho could practically feel everyone’s eyes, everyone’s except Ohno’s that is, throwing him questioning looks.
-----
“What are we doing here?” Sho could only ask as he found his car stopping right in front of a restaurant in Shibuya.
He needed to ask the question because, for one thing, none of the three other guys in the car with him bothered to tell him where exactly they were heading after they finished their shootings for AnShi. Second, because it wasn’t him but Aiba who was behind the wheel of his car since they wouldn’t tell him where they’re going and since all three guys had decided that his car would be the best vehicle to use, despite the fact that they each have their own cars already.
Also, or rather, most importantly, because he found them outside a small but private restaurant he knew would be Ohno’s destination for the night.
It appears that Aiba had been following the car Ohno was provided during the stretch of the whole Kaibutsukun shooting and promotions. It’s the car he rode when he left the site earlier than them. The very same car he could see turning the corner.
“Well, since you weren’t going to tell us what you obviously know and we don’t, we decided to just follow Ohchan around until we find out what the big secret is,” Nino grinned as he looked around from the passenger’s side seat next to Aiba.
“What?!” Sho managed to sputter. He never thought that his attempts of easing the others’ concerns about their leader which would, in turn, steer Ohno away from the other three’s prying eyes for a while, would actually backfire to something like this.
“I don’t believe you’re going to do this to Ohchan of all people, Nino,” Sho quickly thought of saying and did say as he whipped out his cellphone secretly from of the other three men. After all, Ohno is in Nino’s list of favorite people, right next to the inventor of the next great game that’s going to be on the market pretty soon.
Nino looked a bit guilty for a while before he shrugged and said “Well, he told you something he hadn’t told the rest of us yet so if you’re thinking of making me guilty, that’s not going to work.”
Sho sighed. “I can’t believe even you are agreeing to this!” he said as he turned to Jun right next to him.
“Agreeing?” Nino snorted. “He made the plan to stalk Ohchan until we find out what’s what.”
“We wouldn’t be doing this if you just tell us what you know,” Jun shrugged, ignoring that bit from Nino. After a few moments of stunned silence from Sho’s part though, Jun chuckled and shrugged. “Thought so,” the guy said before he looked at Aiba and nodded “Let’s go.”
Before Sho could even say anything, Aiba and Jun are already out of the car and heading into the restaurant’s entrance, making him grimace and Nino smirk. A few minutes later though, both men showed up again with rather grim faces, making Sho secretly sigh in relief.
“What?” Nino asked as the two entered the car.
“He’s not there,” Jun replied grimly.
“Of course he’s in there!” Nino exclaimed. “He should be! We’ve been following him since we left the studio!”
“You might have been following the wrong car,” Sho put in, trying his best not to hide his glee as he slipped back his cellphone into his pocket, thankful of how reliable the device had been for as far as he can recall.
“Of course not!” Aiba exclaimed indignantly. “We were following Ohchan’s car! I’m sure of it!”
“So he must have left without us noticing,” Sho shrugged. “I think this means we better go.”
No one else agreed with that line of thinking though as Nino turned to look at Sho suspiciously and asked “Did you send him a warning or anything?”
Pushing his cellphone deeper into his pocket, Sho replied “Of course not!”
-----
It was usually Sho who admired how genius Aiba could be at times, and Jun and Nino who resented it, but for that night, the roles were reversed as Sho gritted his teeth as Jun and Nino marveled at the genius that is Aiba.
Because was actually Aiba who first thought of how they’d be able to track Ohno again after losing him at that restaurant. They were already at the road then, Sho silently praying that they’re going back to the studio for the others to get their own cars, when Aiba suddenly blurted it out.
“We could call his mother!”
“What?” Nino exclaimed as Shos’ eyes started to widen in fear again.
“His mom!” Aiba repeated in glee. “His mom might know where Ohchan is now!”
“Ohchan has already moved out of his parent’s house, remember?” Sho pointed out in hopes that it would quell this fresh new batch of ideas. “He, unfortunately, still had not told us where.”
“But Ohchan’s mother would know!” Nino grinned as his eyes sparkled at the idea Aiba had provided them. “If he didn’t tell her where he’s going to be tonight, at least she can tell us where he lives now. How to ask her though?”
Jun grinned “I got that covered.”
And so there they were, headed to the address Jun had charmed out of Ohno’s mother (how the guy could be charming while being over the phone, he doesn’t even know) as he could do nothing more but pray that Ohno did not head there after he sent him that text message.
-----
Ohno could only heave a relieved sigh as he crashed on his sofa after changing into a more comfortable set of clothes. In his hand is his cellphone, opened at the latest text message he had received, this one from Sho, saying “Get out NOW!”
It was a rather close call actually. He almost didn’t notice his phone’s vibration but thankfully, he was also waiting for a message from Kaibutsukun’s producer prompting him to check his phone every now and then. It was actually why he saw the guy’s message. And he’s very well aware that they had barely left the backdoor exit of the restaurant when the front door opened and, judging by the audible gasp he heard, one, or more, of his group mates had entered the restaurant.
It’s not that he wanted to hide, of course not. It’s just that he wanted to be private for a while, away from the prying eyes of his group mates. Besides, he did enjoy making them think that fishing (and painting) is the only thing that occupies his free time.
But he is going to tell the others soon. And it wasn’t even his intent that Sho already knows. After all, it was purely accidental when Sho read that message on his phone the day after he returned to India. It was a good thing that he also found out something that he managed to use so Sho would not tell the others just yet.
He still has not figured out how exactly he’d do that but he will. He owes them that much. Plus, if what had just happened is to be considered as proof, the others are already curious, meaning that it wouldn’t be long before they find out for themselves anyway.
He had just started contemplating on his moves when he suddenly heard a knock from the door. Thinking that it was the take out he had ordered earlier, a last resort due to others’ sudden appearance in that restaurant, he went straight to the door to undo the locks.
Just as he undid the last lock though, it opened from without and in come four men, three of whom looking quite proud of themselves while the fourth looked rather apologetic.
-----
“Nice place you have here, Ohchan,” Jun said as the rest of the group filed into the living room of a very taken aback Ohno.
“Yeah, I don’t know why you’re keeping it from us,” Nino seconded as he plopped on the sofa Ohno had vacated moments ago.
“Yeah, it’s not like we would be barging in every so often you know,” Aiba added as he and Jun started examining the displays on the shelves.
Sho snorted to himself before turning around to look at Ohno who looks like he only just recovered.
“Sorry,” he whispered to the other guy. “I tried stopping them.”
Ohno smiled, knowing that winning 1 against 3 in their group is very difficult, especially when it’s Sho against the three younger ones. The pat on Sho’s shoulders told the guy that much.
“What are you guys doing here?” Ohno asked to no one in particular. “And what are you guys all doing together? Is there something I should know about?”
“Oh, I think we should be the ones asking that question,” Jun smiled, looking up from a book he had picked up.
“Yeah, especially since it looks like you and Sho-chan here knows something the rest of us don’t,” Nino added with a rather scary grin.
“That’s unfair Ohchan!” Aiba exclaimed, turning around to show the pout he’s been reserving for their eldest. “Why does he get to know things when we didn’t?”
Ohno looked at Sho for one last time and the look the guy gave him confirmed that the others still do not know anything exactly, just that there was a secret. But just when he was about to open his mouth to start explaining things, another voice surfaced from the kitchen, a female voice and the voice was saying
“Toshi, who’s at the do—or?”
-----
Three pairs of accusing but proud eyes turned to Ohno the moment they snapped out of the semi-trance they have entered since taking in the sight of the source of that voice they’ve all heard before.
Kuroki Meisa.
And despite the fact that they have all worked with Meisa and therefore knew how hot and stunning the woman is, the Meisa before their very eyes is even more stunning, especially since she’s wearing an oversized shirt that looks to be an old one of Ohno’s and nothing more. The blush that had crept to her cheeks at the unexpected sight of the four men even had softened her image that she wasn’t just the fierce Kuroki Meisa anymore.
Ohno found himself quite lost for words to say before he ended up coughing out “Guys, you already know Kuroki Meisa-chan.”
Aiba and Nino, having recovered from the shock, both had identical grins to their lips as Jun and Sho returned to their senses and acknowledged Meisa with a slight bow with Jun saying “It’s been a while Meisa-chan.”
As Meisa blurted out a stuttered greeting, Jun started pushing Aiba towards the door around the same time Sho pulled Nino’s hands towards that direction, both men looked quite unwilling to go but found themselves with no other option.
“You’re going to have a lot of explaining to do,” Jun said through gritted teeth as they passed Ohno by. By the time the four of them were out the door, the guy looks like he had already fully recovered since it was with a straight and practically sincere expression that he addressed Ohno and Meisa, who had by then reached Ohno’s side and is semi-hiding her body with his. “Sorry for disturbing.”
“Yeah,” Sho added. “We’re leaving now.”
“But—“ Nino and Aiba had just started saying but Sho, himself, had reached for the door handle and closed it himself, leaving Ohno and Meisa facing nothing but the door.
A few moments of silenced reigned before Ohno broke that silence.
“I guess that means they already know, huh?”
“You guess?” Meisa chuckled lightly, still not fully recovered from the acute embarrassment of meeting all four men with nothing but a shirt and with completely no preparation time.
Ohno turned to look at her before he too grinned and shook his head. “Nah I’m sorry about that though, I wasn’t expecting them to know my place, let alone come here tonight.”
“It’s all right,” Meisa was just saying. The moment she finished that statement though, Ohno had leaned forward to capture her lips, his hands moving to wrap itself around her waist.
Meisa smiled as she responded to his kiss, her own hands moving towards his nape. It was nothing too deep, or too erotic, so to speak. It was more sweet than anything else, and sensual of course.
The moment the kiss ended, both Ohno and Meisa are already smiling, their lips not really that far apart yet.
“I think I’m hungry,” Meisa breathed.
“Yeah, me too,” Ohno agreed as his eyes continued to wander around her face.
“I managed to make something with what you had in the fridge,” Meisa supplied.
Ohno continued to simply look at Meisa’s lips for a while before he chuckled and said “Let’s eat.”
Before they could move towards the kitchen though, Ohno captured Meisa’s lips for just one more time.
-----
“Well, that was unexpected,” Jun exclaimed, breaking the silence that reigned in the car ever since the four of them entered it from Ohno’s apartment. “Well, I was expecting something but I wasn’t expecting Kuroki Meisa-chan.”
“Yeah,” Nino nodded. “A big ‘whooot!’ to Ohchan though…” he added rather dreamily. After noticing the others looking at him through narrowed eyes though, he exclaimed defensively “What? Kuroki Meisa IS hot! We all know that.”
As Jun and Sho shook their heads, Aiba grinned before something flicked his memory and he threw a how-dare-you look at Sho via the rearview mirror.
“And you know about this?!” he exclaimed. “You knew about her and Ohchan?”
“Yeah!” Jun added. “How did you find out? More importantly, why didn’t you tell us?!”
Sho groaned. He was half hoping that the others would be too preoccupied with seeing Meisa with Ohno that they’d forget about him knowing, at least for the night, but the night really isn’t his night to be lucky.”
“Ohchan made me promise!” he cried to the air.
“And you pick that, out of all the promises you’ve made, as one you would keep?” Nino asked incredulously. “I don’t believe it! In fact, I won’t believe it! What has Ohchan blackmailed you with?!”
“Nothing!” Sho exclaimed as he tried to mask the increased beating of his heart. “No blackmail happened!”
“Oh really?” Aiba asked skeptically.
“Is there something about you we should know about?” Jun added.
“No! Of course not!”
-----THE END-----
The beginning of that relationship…
“You would be the last person I’d expect to see during functions like these,” Ohno heard that familiar voice say as soon as he heard the scraping of the chair opposite him.
He was in a small restaurant in Azabu where Sho had just dragged him to because it was the birthday celebration of his Tokujo Kabachi director. Sho had long since been lost into the political, economic, or otherwise, talk that the guy had been pulled into the moment they stepped into the restaurant. It doesn’t bother Ohno though who seemed fine as she sat on his own on one of the corner tables, sipping his drink every once in a while.
Looking up, Ohno immediately realized why the voice sounded so familiar. They’ve worked with her for a few times already, but honestly, that isn’t enough guarantee for him to actually know the name of the person. This case, though, is different. Of course he knows her. How can he not when he was taken aback the first time he actually met her in person. The girl really has a fierce and strong aura and is really stunning too.
Kuroki Meisa.
“From all the stories being said, one would assume that you’d go straight to fishing,” Meisa added with a smile.
Ohno could feel his heart beat faster the moment he realized who she was and even more so when she flashed him that smile. He tried to hide that though with a small laugh.
“Moments ago, I was wishing I really am fishing,” he chose to admit. “But I owed Sho-chan a favor and that’s why I’m here.”
Meisa chuckled. “Likewise,” she simply said before she raised her glass to her lips.
Ohno, realizing that she’s referring to her best friend, Horikita Maki, who he’d already seen amongst the crowd in there that night, nodded and simply smiled back.
After that though, the two of them fell into some sort of weird silence where they were doing nothing but taking a sip of their own drinks and looking into the other’s eyes. Ohno found Meisa’s eyes to be alluring, sexy, very attractive and he felt like being drawn in to those two orbs.
“You’re beautiful, you know,” he found himself saying before he even knew it.
And for some reason, he thought he heard her say “So are you…” but he cannot be sure.
Meisa wouldn’t be saying that. After all, he’s plain Ohno Satoshi while she’s the stunning and attractive Kuroki Meisa. He had just about convinced himself that he heard wrong but then he saw the small smile on her lips and that glint in her eye.
Really, he cannot be sure.
