To be completely honest, hindi makuha ni Angelo ang punto ng paglabas nilang iyon.
Josh had said na gusto nitong patunayan niya na hindi lang dahil kay Bea siya pumunta sa club the last time. But considering the fact that Bea ended up going with them, kasama na sina Barbie at Rick, he doesn’t know kung papaano niya supposedly mapapatunayan ang bagay na iyon. And akala nga niya ay sila lang nina Kris at Josh ang magkakasama kahit pa inimbitahan din ni Josh si Alexis. Kilala din kasi niya ang babae at sa dinami-dami ng supposedly ay dapat lakad nilang dalawa, malaki ang posibilidad na umatras ito last minute dahil sa may ibang emergency itong pupuntahan.
But Alexis didn’t back out this time. With her, Bea and her friends, Kris, Josh, Joy, at pati na rin si Alden na nahila nila at the last minute, their group was actually quite a big one. And with that number of people na hindi naman lahat ay magkaka-kilala, it is to be expected na magkakaroon ng mini-groups sa kanila.
Bea, Barbie and Joy were dancing together samantalang pagala-gala sina Josh at Kris. Rick, who had informed some of his personal friends of where they were and consequently followed, were with his guys. Siya naman ay kasama sina Alden at Alexis. Somehow, mukha kasing hindi magji-jive si Alexis kina Bea.
“You never said you knew Mr. Raymund Binene’s daughter,” Alexis started conversationally, causing Alden, who was busy talking in the scenery around him while taking a drink, choke habang napalingon ito kay Angelo.
“He’s a family friend,” kibit-balikat na sagot ni Angelo sabay pukol ng mabilis pero makahulugang tingin kay Alden. Nalaman na man kasi ng lalaki ang tungkol sa pagkakaset-up nila ni Bea sa isa’t isa, hindi pa siya handa na sabihin din ito sa babae.
After all, for as long as he remembered since he started working for the company, he had been interested in Alexis. That alone made it awkward, plus mahirap pang paliwanagan ang mangyayari kapagka sinabi niya rito ang totoong kaugnayan nila ni Bea. Besides, he and Bea supposedly had agreed that no wedding is going to happen kaya mas magandang ideya na lang na huwag na niyang gawing komplikado pa ang mga bagay-bagay.
Isa pa ay medyo iba kasi ang tingin ni Alexis kay Bea especially nang noong magpang-abot silang lahat ay binati niya ang babae at ganun din ito sa kanya. He knew, and by the looks of Alden, he too knew, that Alexis got jealous of Bea. Gusto man niyang isipin na iyon ay dahil gusto rin siya ng babae but he knew that Alexis tends to be a bit possessive over certain things and people she perceives to be hers. And since he supposedly is interested in her, in essence, his attention should be hers and hers alone.
But for some reason, he found himself following Bea and his friend’s movements every now and then. Katulad na lang noon, he saw that Josh had rejoined Bea, Joy and Barbie’s group for a little chat. So far, the girls looked like they are enjoying themselves.
The same cannot be said for Alexis though who seemed to have noticed na napunta kina Bea na naman ang attention niya.
“This place looks nice, don’t you think?” Alexis suddenly said sabay angkla ng kamay nito sa braso niya.
The action alone guarantees that any guy’s attention would be pulled towards the woman doing it and even more so dahil hindi naman usual kay Aexis na gawin ang ganoong bagay. Even Alden, based on his facial expression, noticed that action.
“Well,” Angelo started with a shrug as he turned to face her. “Okay lang… Yata…”
Alexis chuckled.
“Yeah right!” anito. “I know you Angelo, this isn’t your type of a scenery. You’d rather be home than be here,” confident na dagdag nito.
Angelo ended up chuckling. Nakakataba ng puso na marinig na kilala na siya ng ganoon ng babae.

“Mare, sino yung Alexis?” bulong ni Barbie sa kanya the moment the three of them decided to return to their table to rest. Yung tatlong tao kasing alam nilang naroroon kanina was no longer at their table. Madali naman nilang nahanap kung nasaan ang mga ito.
Alden, the tall good-looking guy na kasama nina Angelo kanina has gone of wandering, and it’s easy to see that a good number of the women in that club was getting really interested in the guy, lalo pa’t walang babaeng naka-angkla rito. Unlike ang isa sa mga kasama nitong dumating, Angelo, who had Alexis clinging to his arm. Nasa parang terrace ang dalawa at mukhang masyadong involved sa kung ano man ang pinagkukuwentuhan nila.
“Malay ko, baka girl friend,” sagot ni Bea na napakibit-balikat, although she couldn’t help but cast another look at the area where the two were at. Angelo looked like he was enjoying himself. At least he does with Alexis next to her. And that irritates her for some reason although pinipiit niya iyong itago sa dalawang kasama.
“Akala ko ba ang sabi niya sa’yo wala siyang girl friend?” tanong ni Barbie, isang tanong na sinagot lang uli ni Bea ng pagkibit-balikat. She didn’t want to delve further into the issue. In fact, she didn’t want to give the two people in the terrace any more attention than she had already given. Ayaw niyang masira ang gabi niya.
“Ang dinig ko, office mate ata nila,” Aya shrugged sabay pukol ng mabilis na sulyap sa dalawang nasa terrace, Angelo seemed to have just said something funny causing Alexis to chuckle heartily habang pahampas-hampas pa sa braso ng lalaki. “Nagseselos ka?” dagdag na tanong nito sabay pukol ng makahulugang tingin kay Bea.
Bea snorted as even Barbie grinned. “Why would I be jealous?”
“Oh, i don’t know,”Barbie started, obviously perking up. “Maybe because you’re going to be his-!”
Before the woman could finish her sentence though, mabilis na inapakan ni Bea ang paa nito, causing the woman to stop. At bago pa man ito makapag-reklamo o makapagsabi ng kahit na ano, a distraction came in the presence of Josh.
“Hi girls! Nage-enjoy ba naman kayo?” ngiti nito though Bea couldn’t help but notice that his eyes lingered on Barbie’s for a bit longer than necessary. Hindi rin lumagpas sa pansin niya nakalimutan talaga ni Barbie ang magreact tungkol sa pagkakaapak niya sa paa nito when in any other circumstance and no matter the company ay magsasalita pa rin ito.
Catching Joy’s eyes, she realized na hindi lang siya ang nakapansin sa mga bagay na iyon. She grinned as she and Joy shared a wink bago siya bumuwelo para simulang pagtripan ang dalawa. She knew Barbie would be saying a lot for what she’s about to do but she’s going to do it anyway. It sure beats letting her eyes follow Angelo and Alexis anyway.

He was enjoying Alexis’ company, that much he’s sure of, and her attention too. Ever since umakyat silang dalawa sa terrace dahil na rin sinabi ng babae na wala ito sa mood makipag-socialize noon, he had been entertained by her endless chatter and their joyful banter. But for some reason, hindi niya masabing kumpleto ang gabi niya.
Some part of him was looking for something. Or someone.
At iyon ang gumugulo sa isip niya as he waited by the counter for the drinks he ordered for himself and Alexis.
“Well, this was some night,” Alden exclaimed suddenly to his right.
Nang lingunin niya ang kaibigan ay nakita niyang mamula-mula na rin ito dahil sa kombinasyon ng pagod sa kasasayaw at ng alak na nainom, Alden could handle his liquors very well, but it didn’t mean that his liquor wouldn’t manifest itself on him, maputi pa man din siya.
“Mukhang nag-eenjoy ka ah,” pabirong sita niya sa kaibigan, remembering how difficult it was na kumbinsihin itong sumama sa kanila. Alden had planned to catch up on some sleep dahil naging super busy nito during the week.
Alden snorted. “Ako lang ba?” makahulugang anito bago ito lumingon sa dance floor.
Angelo knew that the guy meant that he too was enjoying himself pero nalaman niyang hindi lang pala sila ni Alexis ang tinutukoy nito nang sundan niya ang tingin ng lalaki. It was Josh and Barbie on the dancefloor. At halatang-halata sa pinsan niya ang interes sa kasayaw nito. Barbie looked like she could be interested too but not as blatantly obvious as his cousin.
“Tignan mo nga naman,” napapalatak niyang sabi. “Ito yata ang totoong dahilan kung bakit niya ako pinilit na pumunta rito eh.”
“Ba’t mo naman nasabi?” curious na tanong ni Alden.
“Siyempre, since nandito ako, there’d be no reason for Bea not to come, at impossible namang hindi isasama ni Bea ang best friend niyang si Barbie,” naiiling na sagot ni Angelo. He knew that it wasn’t such a farfetched scenario especially considering na ilang beses na rin siyang ginawang front ni Josh noong mga bata pa lang sila.
“Puwede,” Alden admitted eventually after contemplating on what he just said. “And speaking of Bea, it’s either she really enjoys her alcohol that much or siya ang nangunguna sa mga kasama nating pumunta dito na hindi ineenjoy ang gabing ito.”
Nakakunot ang nooni Angelo habang sinusundan niya ang sumunod na direksyong tinitignan ni Alden and sure enough he saw Bea. The mere sight of her company already brought a frown to his lips, it was Rick and a couple of his friends sa isa sa mga tables sa bandang gilid. He couldn’t see Aya anywhere near the girl. What’s more was that Bea looked drunk.
Lalo pang lumalim ang kunot ng noo niyanang makita niyang bigay lang pa ng bigay ng alak si Rick at ang mga kasama nito kahit pa halatang konti na lang ay pasuray-suray na ang babae.
He didn’t even need to ponder things over before his feet started moving. Bago pa man siya makaalis ng counter, Aya had suddenly appeared next to the two of them, some part of him registered that she looked really worried.
“Angelo, si Bea...” simula ng babae pero hind na niya ito pinansin. He simply headed towards his target
Some part of him registered Alden telling Aya, “Nakita na niya...”
He was only half way towards his intended destination nang si Alexis naman ang nagpakita.
“Hey, kanina pa kita hinihintay ah, akala ko kung anon a nangyari sa’yo,” nakangiti nitong saad. But Angelo didn’t notice her, not really. Parang naka-tunnel vision ang mga mata niya, focused on one direction. Everything else along the way seemed just ike a blur, even the woman standing in front of him.
“Sorry,” he simply told her bago niya ito nilagpasan. He didn’t even bother to stop to think of what would probably be her reaction, or actually wait for her real reaction to rise.
His blood was boiling but it wasn’t simply because of anger. Nag-aalala siya na natatakot na hindi niya mawari na baka may anumang mangyari bago niya marating ang direksyong tinutungo niya.
