I'm not making any excuses but it is for the above reason that i haven't been able to post on lj as much as i want to no matter how much i've finished in the story...

anyway, having no computer also meant something else...

i am not updated with some of the fandom news as much as i'd want to be... so all in one post, i guess... :D

yaay! forJun-kun's new stage play... kind of interesting seeing him as a boxer... :) (coz that would mean lots of shirtless shots, i guess? lol)

and i've seen that pic of Nino and Nozomi.... they're cute... they kinda look good together... all in all, i'm happy for Nino if Nino is happy with her... It'd be unfair for her to say that she's lucky to have Nino though... so i'm only going to say that they lucky to have found each other...

in none Arashi fandom news... i'm glad that Ashida Mana and Fuku-chan's single is still doing good! i love that song and i love the moves... (particularly loved it when they made SMAP backdance it during their SMAPxSMAP guesting--really need to see that one subbed-- and when they made all those senior singers--Exile, Kat-tun, Koda Kumi, AKB48[i think]-- and most specially the two crack hosts of Hey!Hey!Hey! dance to it... :D

and also, i kinda feel excited for ikemen desu ne! no, i didn't watch the original and i don't feel the urge to (despite the fact that the household i now belong to have watched it like, a million times) but i just want to see how Hikaru and those boys from Kis-My-Ft2 are doing... glad for that group's debut by the way... i heard the PV and it's catchy and nice.... and i think i can point out who the faces of the group are (based on that pv at least...) i don't know what their names are yet (except for fujigaya taisuke) but i'm having real interest in the group... :)

Chapter 18: Weighing In

“And here I thought I wouldn’t get to see you here,” Jun suddenly heard a voice drawl as he was walking by the corridors of MG Towers, the Matsumoto Group of Companies’ main building.

He had just finished a conference with some of the international prospective investors in their company and was just on his way to his assigned office in the building when he heard that familiar drawl. And it didn’t take him long to find the source of that voice, noticing an open door he just passed by, nor did he needed to see who it was to know who it was.

Thinking about it, he really shouldn’t be surprised. After all, when Hiro stepped down from MSMT’s top position he had taken position in one of MG’s biggest offices. In his defense though, he wasn’t expecting to see his brother in that part of the building, the main offices being situated at the opposite wing holding the conference rooms. In fact, despite the fact that he’s practically taken camp there for the last days, he had not even crossed paths with the guy, not even once. Except now.

“You and I both, Nii-san,” Jun said with a chuckle as he entered the small conference room and saw his older brother still seated comfortably at the head of the conference table. “What are you doing here?”

“I work here, remember?” Hiro chuckled. “My office is here. I should be asking you that question!”

With a smile, Jun seated himself on one of the swivel chairs a few spots away from Hiro’s. “Dad,” he simply said in response.

Hiro nodded, obviously understanding what he meant by just that. And then he asked ”So, it’s real then?”

“What is?”

“I’ve been hearing a lot about you,” Hiro said, sitting a little bit straighter in his chair. “I heard you haven’t been in MSMT much lately. Does it mean you’ve handed Shun-kun the responsibility already?”

“A bit,” Jun shrugged. “But no one in the company knows yet, except him and me. All they know is that I’d just be away for a bit and Shun-kun is in-charge. We both agreed that we’re going to consider this as a dry run of how it’s going to be when he holds MSMT’s reigns.”

“That could work,” Hiro said, nodding thoughtfully. But then he shed his serious image when his lips suddenly broke into a small mischievous smile and he said “I also heard of something else about you.”

“What would that be this time?” Jun asked.

Hiro grinned. “Nanako tells me that you’ve asked some of Dad’s house help to clean up house for you,” he said. “Your real house, not the pad you’re leaving in right now.”

It was actually one of the slightly weird things about him, Hiro, and Yuyan, that even before they come off age, they already have a house of their own. But it doesn’t have to do with being rich, well, not directly at least (because, of course, that plays a role). It had more to do with their parent’s individuality and independence even at a young age.

It was something they inherited from their parents, in more ways than one. Matsumoto Masayuki and their mother married early but it wasn’t the only early thing they had. They also had their own houses early, something they maintained even after they married and even after they moved into the ancestral house after Masayuki’s parents passed away.

When they were still kids, Masayuki would often bring Hiro, Jun, and Yuya to visit those houses and when they reached an age where they can choose, Masayuki had given them to chance to choose which house would be theirs. Hiro choose their father’s house, located nearer central Tokyo and the one he and his family is occupying now, and Jun their mother’s, which was a beachside property, leaving Yuya with the ancestral house.

Masayuki said that he did it to avoid discussions and quarrels later on.

And that house, the house their mother owned before Jun, is what Hiro’s referring to.

“Nanako-chan is the mistress of the house, huh?” Jun simply said with a chuckle, referring to the fact that the house helps inform her of everything even despite the fact that they are employed under the ancestral house and not Hiro’s.

“She is the only woman in the family,” Hiro pointed out with a smile. “So far. Looks like you’re working hard to change that though,” he added meaningfully.

Jun smiled, his eyes moving away from Hiro as he looked out the window. And then he smiled. “I’d love that,” he said.

There was silence from Hiro’s side for a while before he ended up chuckling.

“Wow! London did change you a lot! Despite all the jokes and talks, I was half expecting you to choose to marry in your 40s, that is, if you’re going to marry at all!” he exclaimed. “You seem to be really serious with Inoue Mao-san huh? Have you told Dad about her?”

“Not yet,” Jun replied, looking at Hiro again. “Although he most likely knows about her, I mean, you do.”

“Good point!” Hiro chuckled. “Besides, I think you’ve gotten past the stage of getting Dad’s opinion. If you’re bringing her to your house already, you’ve made your choice and no matter what Dad’s reaction would be, you’re going to push through with it. Anyway, I think Dad would love her if she’s going to be able to convince you to stay.”

When Jun chuckled at this, Hiro smiled and shook his head lightly. “You may think I’m joking but Dad seriously wants you to stay. Especially since you haven’t said why you’re hell bent to return to London.”

“It’s a bit complicated,” Jun simply replied.

Hiro understood that he wasn’t going to expand on it though as he sighed and choose to ask instead “So how are you and Inoue Mao-san anyway?”

“That,” Jun started after a moment of silence “is also a bit complicated,” causing both him and Hiro to laugh.

When the laughter died down though, Jun added seriously “But I’m doing my best to change that.”
-----

It wasn’t because she had no choice.

When Mao finally accepted Toma’s invite for the two of them to go out, it wasn’t because she had no other choice.

For a while, she was seriously in denial of the truth behind Toma’s words that he’s courting her again. It’s weird to begin with, after all, because even though he had courted her before too she had considered him her best friend for so long in recent memory that it’s weird seeing him in another light. But she had realized that there’s no point in denying the inevitable, especially with the determination Toma has been showing.

Besides, it’s not like she can continue treating Toma as just her best friend when Toma himself stopped acting just as that.

Surprisingly and curiously though, Erika and Maki, and even Ryo, had steered clear of that certain issue. Even during the times when all of them, including Toma, are together.

“I’m going out with Toma-kun this weekend.”

It was this sudden announcement that resulted to the momentary silence in Erika’s car when Mao, Maki, and Erika where on their way home after another day at MSMT. Prior to that silence, the women seated in front (Erika was driving and Maki was on the passenger side’s seat) were busy discussing the latest developments in their respective departments at work.

“What did you say?” Erika asked as Maki turned to look at Mao in surprise.

“I told Toma-kun I’m going out with him this weekend,” Mao said, in a slightly lower voice. She was half-expecting for both women to suddenly explode with words.

She was disappointed though when Maki, who seemed to still be surprised (the same way Erika is), asked “When?”

Mao, whose heartbeat had slowly returned to normal after seeing that both women at least didn’t seem opposed to what she had said, knew what Maki was asking for exactly. After all, she had already said when they’re going so there’s only one possible meaning behind that one-worded question.

“Last night,” she said. “When he called.”

“Called?” Erika exclaimed in surprise. “Since when did that guy learn how to call?”

“Yeah,” Maki agreed. “Even when he’s the one who needs something, it will almost always end up with the other person getting frustrated and be the one to call him. But then again, he is courting Mao-chan again, isn’t he?” she added in an after thought, the last part to Erika and as though Mao wasn’t there.

Mao couldn’t help but agree though, especially since it wasn’t just Toma who kept on calling her.

For the past week or so, she really hadn’t been able to see Jun in MSMT, the rare instances of him being there having been very short and quick. But the lack of physical presence did not equate to losing contact. He would always call her at night, mostly when he’s still on his way home but Mao’s already in bed. And the two of them would talk for quite a long time, about work, what he’s doing, what she’s doing, and she’d end up surprised when she looks up and realizes it’s way past her sleeping time already.

It looks like during those moments, she doesn’t get to notice time that much.

“True,” Erika agreed to Maki’s words, also acting as if Mao wasn’t there before the two women chuckled before sneaking a look at her.

“Does Matsumoto Jun-san know?” Maki asked.

“Yeah.”

And she would never regret reaching such decision.

Her day out with Toma, like all her days with the guy, had been fun. The guy really did know how to make her smile, when to make her laugh, when to just lead her with a smile, and when to just let the silence pass them by.

Their itinerary for the day was quite simple actually. Toma picked her up from her apartment at half past 9 before they headed to the movie house, the two of them having wanted to check out the last installment of the Harry Potter series that had just hit the cinemas. After that was a lively lunch at the restaurant they frequent when it’s just the two of them. And then they went for a stroll where they talked about anything and everything that’s going on.

Over all, it was a great day and even hours after Toma left her early that evening in her apartment, Mao still found herself smiling or chuckling at the memories of the past hours.

But then, when she climbed her bed, already clad in her sleeping clothes, and she really, truly looked back on what happened during the day, she realized that there’s one certain emotion she used to feel around Toma (especially back when they were still dating) that she didn’t feel now. Because while she smiled, laughed, felt (ever so slightly) embarrassed, reminiscent, and all that, she couldn’t find a single moment when he was able to make her heart flutter.

And she knew what that meant.

Really looking forward to Mao and Jun moments real soon.. Looking forward to the next as usual..
