i found Pride a few days ago (and lost my confidence a couple of days later)...

doesn't make sense right, especially the one in the parenthesis. please ignore that.

anyway, the "Pride" i'm talking about is the 2004 drama that starred Kimura Takuya and Takeuchi Yuko...

i got interested because of a very brief preview i saw in Bistro SMAP where they showed the dramas Takeuchi Yuko (more commonly known in the Arashian circle as the one who acted with Jun in Natsuniji and Nino's crush) had starred with SMAP. it was really very short, like just a few seconds, but it got me interested, mainly because i saw that it might have something to do with hockey and because i liked the short interchange KimuTaku and Takeuchi Yuko had in the drama.

i thought of watching bits and pieces of it and i ended up watching the whole drama instead.

and i just want to say, i LOVE it!

it has now joined the very short list of dramas i really liked: Hanadan, HanaKimi, Devil Beside Me, My MVP Valentine, and now Pride! (i liked some others too but these are the ones i seriously, really, truthfully enjoyed)

anyway, i just wanted to say that...

the real purpose of this post is that promised update of a few of my stories.

so... Douzo...

Chapter 4

“I have to say, I really had fun tonight…” Meisa smiled as Nariyama turned around to hand her back her key.

They are already in her apartment building, right outside her door, their date having just ended quite successfully.

“Glad to hear that. Me too,” Nariyama smiled as his eyes looked directly into hers and Meisa almost felt like blushing.

That had been the story of most of the evening, Nariyama making her feel so many things she hadn’t felt in a long, long while. For the past years and even as she went on to other dates and relationships, Meisa hadn’t really been much of the blushing type. Somehow, it just doesn’t come to her no matter how sweet or romantic or dashing the guy is supposed to be. She’s got four men, one of them especially, to blame for that.

But there’s just something about Nari, the smile, the eyes, the unwavering attention that seems to be reeling her in.

The night wasn’t without incident of course. There were a few minor hiccups here and there particularly when Narimiya ordered curry, which turned out to be his favourite dish, when Meisa is allergic to coriander seeds, one of the ingredients used for curry powder.

But the biggest hiccup, per se, of the night was after the dinner when they were leaving the hotel. And it wasn’t even a hiccup that actually relates to them.

Passing by the lobby, it was Meisa who first noticed it. At first, she wanted to sigh, knowing that Sho could and would do something like that ever since that date she had back in college when she was almost in trouble. If he wouldn’t be there, he’d send someone else, and that someone else could be any one of their friends. During some parts of the evening, she’s had split second thoughts of her playboy best friend and what he could be doing at the moment. Because while Sho didn’t voice out any objections of her going out with Nari, he also didn’t look all that supportive of the idea either.

But a split second later, she realized that it didn’t seem to be the case. Mao didn’t look like she was out there to spy on her. In fact, the girl didn’t even look like she knew they were there. She was so busy arguing with a good-looking guy by the elevator. If Mao’s presence at the hotel came as a surprise to her, seeing the girl like that came as a shock. Mao’s normally a bubbly, happy creature and rarely does she look as annoyed as that.

By the time she and Nari joined her, the guy she was arguing against had already turned his back, almost dismissively, she noticed, leaving Mao fuming. What happened after made her appreciate Nari more.

He never looked the part of the date who got annoyed because their date was interrupted by the sudden appearance of her friend. It was even Nari who initiated that they check it out during that moment Meisa was rooted to the spot. He also volunteered that they drive Mao home, an offer Mao declined saying that she brought her own car.

They were just looking at each other for a few moments until Nari cleared his throat and they both ended up chuckling.

“I guess I better go now...” Nari smiled and all Meisa could do is to nod. “I’ll call you...”

“Sure...” Meisa replied and Nari’s smile widened just a tad bit more before he forced himself to turn around (because it sure looks like he can’t get his eyes off of her) and headed out of the building.

Meisa just stood there for a while, watching him until he was out of sight. Only then did she enter her apartment, a smile still plastered on her face.
-----

“I ran out of coffee.”

Those were the first words that greeted Meisa as she stepped out of her bedroom into her living room to see none other than her best friend, Sho, sitting comfortably on her sofa, a cup of coffee placed on the center table in front of him and a newspaper in his hands. Meisa couldn’t even force herself to become surprised. The sight of the guy like that, in her own apartment, had been such a common occurrence, she had already half-expected it to happen, especially when she didn't call or send him any message the night before when she got home.

“I don’t think you even buy coffee anymore,” she shook her head with a small chuckle as she walked over to him.

When Sho simply grinned at her implying that she got it right after taking a sip of his coffee, she snorted, reaching out for the cup and taking a sip herself while Sho watched. She had already cleaned herself up a bit but she hadn’t combed her hair all that much, preferring to do so after her first cup of coffee. Sho seeing him like that doesn’t concern her though. They’re both used to each other already.

“So, how was last night?” Sho started. “You didn’t call last night...”

“It was good,” Meisa simply replied before crashing to the sofa leaving a bit of space between her and Sho.

“Good?” Sho repeated. “Define good.”

Meisa chuckled, seeing how serious he looked when he said that. He had even placed his newspaper down, meaning that he really is serious and would not be dropping the topic any moment.

“We had dinner,” she pointed out. “It was nice, it was fun, he was a perfect gentleman.”

“Oh,” Sho exclaimed as he tried to look nonchalant about what she just said. “So, he didn’t touch you or anything?”

“Sho?!” Meisa exclaimed, reaching out for one of her throw pillows to throw at him. He easily caught the object that was aimed at his face though but during that split-second when his face was hidden by the incoming pillow, his expression changed. By the time his face reappeared, he no longer looked that serious.

He had a small smile on his face.

“What? I was just asking!” he chuckled.

“Perv!” Meisa called as she too grinned.

“Oh, you know me...” Sho simply said a matter of factly as he threw the throw pillow on the seat adjacent the sofa to not be a hindrance. When Meisa simply rolled her eyes, he asked “So…”

“So what?” she asked.

“So, is there anything else I’m supposed to know?”

Meisa snorted and chuckled simultaneously. She had thought he’s dropping the issue already when Sho started smiling again. It seems he’s not finished yet.

“Why are you so interested?” she demanded.

Sho looked at her directly in the eyes for a while before he grabbed his cup Meisa had re-placed on the table and took a sip before saying “Because you’re not saying much. Usually, you’ve already belted out a long list of complaints even before I take my second sip.”

“That’s if I don’t like the guy,” Meisa pointed out.

Sho seemed ready to just shrug before he doubled back at what she said and stared at Meisa, his cup still in hand. “You mean you like him?”, he exclaimed.

“Narimiya-kun is a nice guy,” Meisa simply said, a small smile rising to her lips at the memory of how he made her feel the previous night. “We’re going out again next weekend.”

It actually looked like Sho was about to say something but then he looked at her and then he sighed and shrugged.

“I’m guessing last night was perfect then,” he said.

“Not that much,” Meisa smiled sheepishly, sliding closer until their shoulders were already touching. “His favorite is curry,” she added, pulling the hand Sho was using to hold his cup of coffee to allow her to take another sip.

“Oh,” Sho said. “What did you have?”

“Chicken,” Meisa shrugged.

Sho chuckled. He had long since dropped curry from his menu ever since he witnessed how Meisa couldn’t breathe after taking a very small bite of it. That was his first time skipping class because he rode in the ambulance that took her to the hospital that day. He knew he wouldn’t be able to concentrate on school.

Placing an arm over her should, he said “Yeah, I’d figure that much…”

Chapter1, Chapter2, Chapter 3

Chapter 4

“Remind me again why I’m doing this…” Jun ordered as he turned around to face the younger idol sitting on the sofa at his living room, his cell phone already in his hand.

Nishikido Ryo looked up from his perch at the sofa and Jun had to shake his head as he compared the huge transition from the timid Ryo that first sat there during his first visit to his apartment to the Ryo now sitting there so comfortably like he’s just in his own apartment or in any of his groups’ greenroom.

He was actually greatly surprised to see that younger idol, along with another younger idol, Toma, standing outside his apartment door the moment he went home after one of his group’s regular shootings. Of course, seeing the two already there meant that he could not send them away, no matter how much he wanted to, just so he could get some sleep.

“Because you’re a good friend…” Ryo smiled. “Because you want to help Yamapi… Because you know doing this is the right thing…”

Jun raised an eyebrow at him and chuckled. “What makes you think the option of helping Yamapi is going to convince me to do this?” he asked.

“Well, you’re not Ninomiya-kun so he can’t say that it’s almost like torturing the guy to persuade you…” Toma, who was standing next to Jun’s rack of DVD’s, pointed out reasonably. “Although the first half of the plan is practically aimed to cause exactly that…”

Jun snorted, but then he ended up chuckling and shaking his head. “I thought you’re supposed to be angry at him at the moment?” he pointed out.

“I am…” Toma said in self-defense. “But I personally think Keiko-san is a very nice girl… And I don’t want to see her suffer just because Yamapi is so slow in figuring things out for himself…”

“How sure are you that he still hadn’t figured things out?” Jun challenged.

“Because he’s still moody up to now…” Ryo replied. “Because I’m sure as hell that they haven’t spoken yet… And most specially because when I asked him about it earlier, he said he’s still trying to figure things out…”

“What’s there to figure out, right?” Toma asked incredulously. “He obviously likes her enough for him to start sulking around like that just because she’s not returning his messages or answering his phone calls… The only thing left for him to do is admit that he loves the woman…”

“And you’re sure he’s really in love with Kitagawa Keiko-chan?” Jun asked. “After all, you have to admit, there’s a lot of other options other than love… It could also be just infatuation, attraction, sexual attraction… What makes you think he is unknowingly in love?”

“He is!” Ryo cried. “One hundred percent! The rest of my group would not be suffering like this if he’s just infatuated or sexually attracted… And while I do get a kick out of seeing those guys fear Yamapi, it’s getting ridiculous… No, actually, it got ridiculous as early as the third day he started assuming the role… And I can’t believe that he still hasn’t realized his own feelings for the woman…”

Jun sighed. “So you’re planning to force him to admit his feelings for Keiko-chan?”

“’Forcing him’ sounds a bit harsher than what we intended…” Toma said. “But yeah… That’s basically the gist of what we’re hoping to happen… Yamapi is not yet as thick as Jin… He just needs a bit of prodding towards realizing that he isn’t…”

Jun had to agree with that, and he did. But then he asked “And I have to, need to, be the one doing this because?”

“Because you have the ability to pull off every facet of the plan… Because he’s least likely to do anything rash or something of that sort to you when he sees what we’re hoping him to see… Because you have the highest chance of making the guy jealous out of all of us because Toma here is tame, Jin is an idiot, and Yamapi knows Kame has no interest in women younger or almost the same age as he is… I could probably do it, to a certain extent, except that I was the one who pried off all of the necessary information from him and he’d see it immediately for what it is…” Ryo listed.

“Also, because you have been linked to her once, or twice, or for quite sometime in the past…” Toma added. “And of course there’s the fact that you’re the only one out of all of us who has her personal number…”

Jun could only shrug after the quite long narrative the two had just combined to deliver. He had just raised his phone to dial when he looked at the two again and said “Just for the record, the only reason why I have Keiko-chan’s number is because we enjoyed talking during that time she came as a guest in one of our shows and said we should go out next time…”

The sound of ringing from the other line could already be heard when Jun added “I guess that’s as good as a reason any to use as a front to help Yamapi… Who else knows about this?”

“Just us…” Toma answered. “Plus Kame and Jin…”

“Jin? You think it’s a good idea telling Jin about it when he could easily slip up and tell Yamapi?” Jun asked.

“We’ll, I didn’t think it was a good idea but we needed his help…” Ryo reasoned. “He and Kame would be responsible for Yamapi…”

Jun shrugged but whatever he had in mind, he didn’t say, especially because Keiko had just picked up his call.
-----

The sight of two personalities such as Matsumoto Jun and Kitagawa Keiko together in a pub would have caused a lot of commotion and chatter from amongst that pub’s normal crowd. In fact, they would cause a lot of chatter just by entering the same establishment in one same night. But whoever among of the four (Ryo, Toma, Kame or Jin) chose the location, they had enough foresight to choose a place that’s quite used to popular personalities like themselves and is known for having strict privacy policies.

With the worry of paparazzi catching them being out of the way, the conversation had flowed long smoothly.

Keiko, for her part, had been feeling a little bit better after that conversation with Megumi. Letting it all out had helped her ease the weight in her heart. And then of course there’s the fact that she’d always admired the character of the idol she’s now having dinner with.

Jun, on the other hand, genuinely enjoys talking to the woman. Of course there’s the fact that he finds Keiko intelligent, and gorgeous. Other than that though, he’d already seen that there is no spark between the two of them, no anything, not even a tiny tinge at the heart.

But the calm and comfortable mood between the two of them shifted slightly the moment the door opened and Jun saw the sure sign that the plan is already in motion. Kame and Yamapi had just entered. And a couple of minutes of eyes searching the place, Yamapi’s eyes finally landed on their table.

Jun smiled.

so yeah...
for some reason, i can not add the links to my the previous chapters since LJ is not allowing me...
will edit soon for that part...
but just in case you're interested in the previous chapter, i have them in my masterpost... (and i can't link to that too, unfortunately)

also, i'm seriously considering a new series (i know i have lots of ongoings already)...
but this is Pride-inspired...
so far, the cast i'm thinking of is composed of Kimura Takuya, Takizawa Hideaki, Higashiyama Noriyuki, Matsumoto Jun, Takeuchi Yuko, Inoue Mao, Kuroki Meisa + a few more... all of them having a different age from what they have at the moment though

what do you think?

anyway, comments and critics are really loved.
