Chapter 9

Mao couldn’t help but frown when she parked her car at the address Yuya gave her; supposedly it was a seaside viewpoint but it looked quite deserted at the moment. Deserted as in no one is there, not even her brother.
Getting out of her car, she realized that it wasn’t as deserted as she thought though since she saw a car parked on the parking lot below and a guy taking a few things out of its trunk. Thinking that it’d be better if she’d just ask around instead of waiting there for her brother, who might have an empty battery on her cell since she couldn’t reach him, she made her way towards the car and the person below. As she stepped closer though, she had this eerie feeling that the guy seemed awfully familiar despite the fact that his back is turned to her.

And she was right. Because when she said “excuse me…” and he turned around and she saw his face, she realized that Yuya had just played a game on her. She suddenly felt extremely happy seeing him though, and she couldn’t help but smile.

“Mao-chan!” Jun exclaimed, removing the glasses he had on. “What are you doing here?”

“Yuyan told me to pick him up here…” she said after a momentary silence. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m working…” he explained, motioning towards the photography stuff he had at the trunk of his car and at the camera hanging around his neck. “I’ve been asked to photograph this place for promotion before the grand reopening…”

“Oh… Okay…” she breathed. They stood there, looking at each other for a while before she felt conscious of herself. “I… I think I better go now…”

Before she could walk away though, she felt Jun’s hand on her arm, making her look around to him.

“If you don’t have anything to do, you can come join me…” he said, looking into her eyes. She felt herself nodding.
-----

“So, how’re you and your boyfriend?” he started conversationally as she followed him around, watching as he scanned the place with his eyes.

“Ex…” she said a little more loudly than intended, making him turn to her. “I mean, yeah…” she continued shyly. “We decided we were better of as friends…”

“Oh…” he simply said. She can’t really say if he had a small smile on his lips or not, but his face looked a bit brighter as compared to how it was set earlier.

“You know, I’ve been meaning to ask…” she started after a while. “Who’s she?”

“Who’s who?” he asked, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

“The girl you once fell in love with…” she elaborated.

“What makes you think I’ve fallen in love?”

“There was something about you when you talked about moving on after falling in love…” she shrugged. “It’s like you’re talking from experience… And then of course there’s the fact that Mirai-chan thought you fell in love once…”

“She said what?” he chuckled. “What’s that kid been telling you?”

“She said your mom thought so too…”

Jun was silent for a while, and she suddenly noticed that they’ve stopped walking too.

“They’re right…” he admitted. “I did…”

“What happened?” she asked suddenly feeling a small pinch in her heart seeing how suddenly looked melancholic.

“She left…”

“Oh… Did you ever get to see her again?”

Jun took a much longer time to reply but he didn’t look like he didn’t know what to say or that he didn’t want to talk about it. It was like he was making a decision. And then he said

“Yes…”

“When?” she asked, trying to sound really interested although that pinching her heart seemed to increase in intensity.

Jun sighed and looked directly into her eyes. “About two months ago, when her younger brother came to me, asking if I could help her recover from her recent heartache…”

Mao blinked a couple of times, then she gasped, realizing what he just did, what he meant, her heart pounding so loudly she was almost afraid it’d jump out of her chest. But Jun wasn’t finished.

“I was so happy when I saw her again… The first thought I had that she’s even more beautiful than she was when I was 15 and she was 13… And while I reminded her of some stuff I think she might have forgotten, I realized that I never really got over her…”

“Oh…” she could only say.

“I’m still not over her actually…” he said.

“W-Why didn’t you tell her before?” she stuttered.

“I didn’t want to keep her away from her happiness… I thought she’d be happier with someone else…” he replied with a small shrug. “I thought it was the right thing to do…”

“Oh…”

“How about you? Are you in love right now?”

She looked into his eyes the moment he asked that question and she saw that there was hope and a promise of happiness in there.

She swallowed hard before saying seriously “Yeah… I think I am…”

“Oh…” he shrugged, looking slightly crestfallen as he looked away from her and into the sea.

And then she smiled, slipping her fingers into his. It didn’t take any more than a split second before he turned around to look at her in confusion before realization dawned on him too. She felt him entwine their fingers and she knew her heart soared.

She started to chuckle, feeling ridiculous that she spent all those years searching for ‘the one’ when she actually found him years ago already. And then he too was laughing. It didn’t take long when he suddenly pulled her for a hug. They were both still chuckling through that embrace but she had tears in her eyes. But those tears were that of joy.

And then the laughter subsided and she felt him loosen their hug. And she knew what’s bound to happen when he looked deeply into her eyes. She didn’t make a move to stop him though, only closing her eyes when his lips were merely centimeters away from his. The moment their lips touched, her surroundings shouted the confirmation that the choice she made was finally right and yet she didn’t care. Because what matters is that she’s already in his arms and she’d decided that she’s staying there.

When they were kids, Jun thought her a few lessons. When they met again, he thought her a few things about interest and love. Now, the lessons are not yet over, it just changed to how they could hang on to each other.
-----FIN-----

i just wanted to say that this is really how i wanted to end it from the start...
sort of like, i wanted to write something of how they got into a relationship and not about the relationship itself... i don't know... i'm weird...
i hope it's still all right though...

on another news...
dropped by arama just for the heck of it and saw Arashi's accomplishments for this year...
WOW!
really... they relinquished the first 2 spots for the singles chart but they just had to make another milestone, don't they? lol...
i'm so happy for them... hope they do get to rest though...

also, please drop by my previous post ----> here
it's a list of possible stories i have in mind for 2011 and i'd really like to have your inputs... you know, since i'm almost like spamming your pages and it's somehow right that i ask what you'd want to read... you can also say if you just want me to stop writing all together, i'd be fine with that...:)

edited to add: this would be my last fic before Aiba's birthday fic on the 24th (still deciding if i should make a coupling)... and hopefully an update for One Chance... :)
