So, a recent genre movie marathoning i've gotten myself into inspired me to continue a fic concept i've had way before One Chance but dropped because i didn't know how to end it... i think that this time, i may just actually know how to make it work since...

1. i already have a plan on what happens, and
2. it would be just a short story...

so there...

TITLE: Learning from the Yoda
CHARACTERS: Matsumoto Jun, Inoue Mao, Takaki Yuya, Shida Mirai, Yamashita Tomohisa
PAIRING: Jun/Mao
RATINGS: PG
DISCLAIMER: The only thing i own in this story is the plot...
AUTHOR'S NOTE: this isn't a one shot but it isn't a novel either... it's somewhere in between... and i promise i'm not dropping One Chance...
SUMMARY: she needed to learn about men to avoid getting hurt severely ever again... it turns out that he was the right choice...

“What’s with the almost dead look?”

That six word sentence almost made Mao drop the glass of water she had on her hands.

“What the--!” she managed to stammer, her left hand moving to support the glass since her right hand started shaking. Turning around, she glared at her younger brother through the dark. “You scared me Yuya!”

“I scared you? You’re the one who didn’t turn on the lights…” he chuckled, joining her at the kitchen. “You closed early…” he observed, referring to the café they inherited from their parents which she co-runs.

“No…” she chuckled humorlessly. “I left Hiroshi-kun to close…”

“Wow… First time in what? Five years since you started co-managing the business with Hiroshi-kun…” Yuya exclaimed as he poured himself a drink. “What gives?”

“Nothing…” Mao sighed, turning around to look away from him. “I just don’t feel good today… Why are you still up anyway? It’s already getting late…”

Yuya laughed. “Yeah… Sure… A 20-year old guy would go straight to bed just because it’s getting dark…” he said. “Come on Onee-chan, tell me… What’s up?”

“Nothing…”

“Sure…” he chuckled, obviously in disbelief. “Because you drinking in the dark meant that you’re perfectly fine… How did you get home by the way? I didn’t hear Yamapi-kun’s car come in the driveway…”

The small gasp that left her throat the moment that name was mentioned was as meaningful as any other word that would have left her mouth. Her brother immediately understood.

“What happened?” he asked, his voice getting dark.

“Nothing…” she said again.

“Yeah sure…” he said sarcastically. “Because my older sister would break up with her 3 year boyfriend just for nothing… Tell me what happened…”

Mao didn’t say anything for a while, her brother didn’t too as he waited for her to speak up.

After a while, she sighed.

“Aki and I… Aki and I saw him kissing another girl when I went to the mall with her this lunch…”

“He did what?!” exclaimed Yuya, his nose flaring as he slammed his hands to the table, already on his feet. “I swear, when I see that guy, I’m going to kill him!”

“No you won’t…” Mao sighed, pulling him down to sit again. “I already hit him…”

“Huh?”

“I already hit him…” she repeated.

“Really?” Yuya asked, his anger temporarily forgotten in amazement. “Where?”

“Down there…” she shrugged, her lips breaking to a small smile for the first time that afternoon. When Yuya kept on staring at her, his jaws dropped, she cried “What?! It’s not like he didn’t deserve it…”

“Congratulations!” he chuckled, smiling now as he extended a hand to shake hers. “I always knew you had it in you…”

She ended up chuckling a bit when she extended her hands to shook his. Yuya took that connection one step further when he pulled her to him for a hug.

“I just hate it, you know…” she ended up saying into that hug. “I feel so stupid… I kept thinking that I should have seen it coming… Like I should have already learned from the past… This isn’t the first time after all…” she continued tearfully.

“Now, now…” Yuya consoled her, his hand patting her back. “It isn’t necessarily and technically your fault that you end up dating jerks…”

“I’m not sure if that’s much of a help…” she sniffed lightly as she got out of that embrace. “I just hate this feeling you know…”

“So what are planning to do about it?”

“I don’t know… Learn to read men better, maybe… To have a clue…” Mao shrugged. And then her eyes lit up. “Teach me…” she said.

“Wait… What? Me?” he stuttered.

“Of course you…” Mao looked at him hopefully. “You’re a guy… You know these kinds of stuff, I know you do… Don’t even start pretending that you don’t…”

Yuya stared at her for a while before he sighed.

“Yeah… Sure, I know some of it…” he said. “But I’m not exactly the best person to teach you…”

“Why? You’re my brother…”

“Exactly…” he sighed. “I can not guarantee that I can be neutral in whatever lessons about men you want to learn… But I think I know a guy suited for the job…”

“Who?” she asked.

“You’ll see tomorrow…” Yuya simply grinned.

“Matsumoto Jun?!” Mao exclaimed the moment she saw the guy who entered the café just after Yuya. His brother had already sent her a message that he’s coming in with her possible “teacher”.

Years ago, when they still lived in the old house and she was still just a kid, there was this boy, a few years older than her, who had always been with her and Yuya, along with his little sister. When their mother died though and their father had to move to Tokyo because of his job, she never thought she’d see him again. It didn’t stop her from hearing certain things about the guy though.

“I see you haven’t forgotten me Mao-chan…” the guy said, flashing her a sweet smile.
